The British collector can be quite an eccentric person. It can be quite unbelievable to see the strange things that some people like to hoard, looking out for the newest cuckoo clock, a rare movie poster or china tea set. Possibly one of the strangest collectible goods however is the credit card.
Why are credit cards so collectible
– the attractions of what cause people to collect range from
person to person. However the two main attributes that can be given
blame are the wide variety of designs available and the ‘history’
behind the credit card.
Companies are increasingly looking
to create a stunning product to set themselves apart from others
in the market – and credit cards are no different. With technology
increasing for many years now photographs and prints have been embossed
on the cards. So you could find a Vincent Van Gough print on one,
face of a movie star on another or even comical scenes. Some are
rarer than others and hence a driving factor for collectors –
they love a challenge.
To explain the second reason given,
credit cards are a fairly important advance in modern financial
services. Until they were invented making purchases without cash
could be difficult. However once the innovation came amount they
grew and grew in popularity until the explosion of common use that
is evident today. With such an important place in society and economy
who knows if they will be worth something one day?
