Whenever your credit card offers you something at either at a low price or for free there is something, which is hidden. The hidden thing could be a hidden cost or a hidden liability. An offer might have an appealing face value that makes us forget the tricky fine lines and where we land up is a big financial trouble.
Thus, it is always advisable that before choosing any credit card, do a detail market research so that not a single stone is left unturned. You should be vigilant enough to gather all the required information about the card and the credit card company. Check the credentials of the company and then go ahead.
Most of the credit card companies levy one surcharge that is well hidden from the eyes of customer. That is conversion fee. So, whenever you go abroad, do some shopping and pay through your credit card you are charged a conversion fee. This conversion fee is most of the times not mentioned in the terms and conditions in bold. Every credit card company has their own rate of conversions and that too according to the currency. Earlier it was set at one percent but now most of the companies are either doubling it or even tripling it. Many credit card companies charge this amount without informing the consumers about it.
There are many more hidden charges and fee that a customer has to pay out of his pocket. The credit card companies mint money out of it and the customer keeps suffering the brunt of a mounting debt.
Account set up fee is another crafty rip off idea of the credit card companies. This is well followed by a processing fee. Initially you might not be told about these expenses but as soon as you start receiving their billing statement you actually come to know about them. The rate of interest suddenly shoots up whenever you tend to miss your repayment.
Besides these hidden costs there are hidden liabilities. Once you falter in reading through the fine lines, traversing the safe path gets difficult. One deviation from it can cost you heavily and land you in a total financial mess. These liabilities can actually aggravate your debt. The poor customer has to pay heavily out of his pocket not for a service or unwanted benefit but for a mere incidence of unintended ignorance.
There are many dubious credit card companies that aim to survive only on the basis of luring the customer into jazzy traps of tall claims shadowing colossal hidden costs.
