According to recent reports the UK is the hardest hit of all of the European destinations when it comes to credit card fraud.
The European Security Transport Association conducted research into the area of credit card fraud last year, and according to the results around seven million credit card holders or twenty percent of adult Brits had been the victim of credit card fraud.
The figures also indicated that across the rest of Europe a total of around eleven percent of adults had been the victim of credit card fraud, indicating that the percentage of Brits affected by credit card fraud was nearly double the figure in the rest of Europe.
According to the results of the survey UK credit card holders are twice as likely to become the victims of credit card fraud than cardholders in other parts of the continent.
Another fact that came to light as part of the survey was that whilst European victims of credit card fraud preferred not to use their credit cards so much after becoming the victims of fraud, the majority of credit card fraud victims in the UK had no qualms about continuing normal use with the credit card.
Scams and fraudulent schemes in relation to credit cards have become more sophisticated over recent years, and many people have fallen victim to these scams.
However, experts have stated that consumers can take steps to reduce the risk of credit card fraud in the UK, and should always exercise cautions when it comes to giving out their credit card details in order to keep them as protected as possible.
This includes not providing credit card details in response to emails and not giving out credit card numbers in response to phone calls that have not been initiated by the cardholder.
